The Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Thursday informed that the Electricity department has incurred loss of around Rs 10 crore infrastructural loss which includes cost of around 55 transformers which have been damaged due to heavy rainfall in the monsoon season.
“Electricity department is been severely affected by monsoon rains. Our 55 transformers have been damaged and the total instrumental loss is roughly estimated to around Rs 10 crore and the manpower cost to repair work is yet to assessed,” said Cabral.
The minister also said that Electricity department has started planning in advance to avoid electricity problems in the next monsoon season and that his department is working restlessly to restore power failures due to heavy rains.
The Electricity department was under tremendous pressure due to frequent power failures in the monsoon season due to damage caused to electricity poles, wires and transformers from gusty winds.
On Wednesday, there was no electricity in Ribandar areas due to damage caused because of lightning.
“Our engineers are working day and night to restore power and power in Ribandar area has been restored,” said Power Minister Cabral.
Meanwhile, the minister said that he has instructed electricity engineers to immediately resolve the complaint of faulty electricity meters and overcharging.
“The engineers after examining will fit a parrellel electricity meter and if still there is a difference in the reading then the meters will be replaced,” said the minister.
